GTA 6 Cloud Gaming Could Get Expensive for Xbox Players

GTA 6 Cloud Gaming Could Get Expensive for Xbox Players

Xbox is changing the way cloud gaming works with Game Pass, and the new limits could become particularly interesting for GTA 6 players who plan to experience Rockstar’s next game through the cloud.

Starting in November, Game Pass subscribers will receive a fixed number of cloud gaming hours each month instead of having unlimited access. Xbox says the change is expected to affect around 4% of Game Pass subscribers.

Game Pass Cloud Gaming Will Have Monthly Limits

Under the new system, each Game Pass plan will come with a monthly cloud gaming allowance:

  • Game Pass Ultimate: 15 hours
  • Game Pass Premium: 10 hours
  • Game Pass Essential: 5 hours

Once those hours are used, players will have the option to purchase additional cloud gaming time through the Xbox Store.

For players who regularly spend long sessions gaming through the cloud, this could make cloud gaming considerably more expensive than it is today.

Could This Affect GTA 6 Players?

This is where the change could become important for GTA 6.

Rockstar’s next Grand Theft Auto is expected to be one of the biggest releases of 2026, and some players may eventually look toward cloud gaming as a way to play without buying or upgrading expensive hardware.

However, if GTA 6 becomes available for cloud streaming on supported Xbox devices, players who spend dozens of hours exploring Vice City could quickly go beyond their monthly allowance.

That means players who want to use cloud gaming for longer GTA 6 sessions may have to pay for additional hours on top of their existing Game Pass subscription.

You Won’t Necessarily Need Game Pass

Xbox is also introducing another option in November. Players without a Game Pass subscription will be able to purchase cloud gaming hours through the Xbox Store and stream eligible games they already own on supported devices.

This could give players more flexibility if they only want to use cloud gaming occasionally.

It could also be useful for people who own an Xbox One, as cloud gaming can allow supported games designed for Xbox Series X|S to be played without immediately upgrading their console.

GTA 6 Could Make Cloud Gaming More Important

The timing is interesting because GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026.

If GTA 6 eventually receives cloud support, the new Xbox system could give players another way to experience the game, but heavy players may need to carefully manage their monthly cloud hours.

For someone using cloud gaming for shorter sessions, the limits may not be a major issue. But players planning long GTA 6 sessions could find themselves paying for extra time once their allowance runs out.

Xbox Will Reveal More Details Before Launch

Xbox says more information will be provided before the changes begin, including pricing for additional hours, purchasing options, eligible games and availability in different markets.

The company says the new model is being introduced because the cost of providing cloud gaming increases as more players use the service for longer periods.

For GTA 6 fans, the biggest question will be whether Rockstar’s game receives cloud support and, if it does, how much playing it through the cloud could ultimately cost.

With GTA 6 arriving in November, these changes could make the economics of cloud gaming worth watching closely.
